This is an amazingly simple recipe for a general pie crust or pastry crust, useful for most purposes.
The trick is to thoroughly CUT IN the dry ingredients into the shortening, THEN to add a minimal amount of water to "stick" all of the little flour-and-fat "balls" together.
Guna Involved
Guna - Tamas
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
- A little cool water
Preparation
- Place all ingredients except water into bowl.
- THOROUGHLY "cut" the dry ingredients into the shortening. This is done with a table knife, spoon, or pastry knife until the mixture forms into tiny little balls.
- Add barely enough water to stick this together to make roll-able pie crust.
